DID YOU KNOW?

If you're allergic to peanuts (and sometimes tree nuts), there’s a greater chance you’ll be allergic to sesame seeds, too. Also like the peanut and tree nut allergies, a sesame allergy is likely to be with you forever.

TEENI TAHINI works his magic on the sesame allergy!

Hello there! The word on the street is that you have a sesame allergy or want to know more about it. Well, you’ve come to the right place! My name is Teeni Tahini, and even though I’m a magician, there are no tricks up my sleeve when it comes to kids with allergies. I’ve been performing in Europe and Canada, where sesame is well known, but now that it’s gaining popularity in the United States, I wanted to come by and tell you all about it. And TA-DA, here I am!

Many of my fellow sesame seeds are found in Middle Eastern and Far Asia foods, like falafel, tahini (where I got my name!), hummus, halvah and more. You may not have heard of these foods yet, but I imagine you will soon. They are getting more popular by the minute!  Oh and let's not forget about good ole bagels and rolls with sesame seeds on them.  Unfortunately, kids with a sesame allergy will have to be super careful since sesame isn’t clearly listed on food labels in America like other allergens are. So scan those ingredient lists on your food carefully (lotions too)!

Our friends at AllerMates also have some helpful info and tips for you, and they’ve created a lot of cool things to help you learn to be safe AND have fun. So kick back, check out the links to the left and visit as often as you’d like.

And now I, the powerful Teeni Tahini, would like to show you my famous disappearing trick. Presto-disappearo-and away I go!
