DID YOU KNOW?

EATING fish isn’t the only way to have an allergy outbreak. For some people, just walking through a fish market or being near someone who’s cooking fish can trigger an outbreak!

DETECTIVE FIN is on the fish allergy case!

So, I hear you’re a victim of a fish allergy or want to know more about it. Well, you’ve come to the right place. My name is Detective Fin, and I’m out day and night trying to solve the mystery for kids with allergies. But while I’m waiting on my big break, why don’t I tell you what I know so far about this fishy case?

First, the list of fish allergy suspects is long… salmon, cod, tuna, pollock, tilapia, snapper, eel and on and on. The good news is that even though one suspect, I mean fish, may be bad for you, it doesn’t mean the other types of fish are. And you don’t have to work too hard to stay away from those suspects you are allergic to since they’re not found in many foods. My best advice is to steer clear of restaurants where you’ll find fish, and if you can’t, make sure your food wasn’t cooked in the same oil as fish.

Of course, there’s a lot more to know about the fish allergy case, and our friends at AllerMates have created a bunch of cool stuff to help you learn to  be safe AND have fun. So kick back, check out the links to the left and come back as often as you’d like.

I gotta go now. I’m meeting the guys for bowling before I swim upstream. Watch your back and take care of yourself.
